A storm was brewing on 91st Street, September 7, 2011, but it did not stop our families, friends, teachers and community members from celebrating the ribbon cutting at Central Park Montessori School. With help from Richard Ungerer, Executive Director of the American Montessori Society and Andrew Ackerman, Executive Director of the Children’s Museum of Manhattan, Dr. Kathy Roemer cut the ribbon signifying the opening of Twin Parks Montessori School’s third location.
As part of the celebration, and to give back to our community, Twin Parks Montessori Schools made a contribution to one of the Children’s Museum of Manhattan’s outreach programs. A donation of $7,500 was made to support the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Arts Outreach Program for children with cancer.
Afterwards, the participants listened to a lecture given by Dr. JoAnn Deak, on the topic of sensitive periods of learning within the first 10 years of a child’s life. Dr. Deak is an international speaker and synthesizer of brain research and how parents and teachers can use the latest information to help children grow and develop.
Dr. Deak’s children’s book, The Fantastic Elastic Brain is available for sale at Central Park Montessori School (please inquire at the office). During the book signing, guest participated in tours of the school and listened to music while enjoying refreshments!
Guests were offered a gift bag containing umbrellas – at the end of the evening! A great time was had by all!
